Wordpress 2.6 Is Here

Well I promised a new theme within the week, and here it is: Orchid. If there was a healing elixir that was squeezed fresh from a website template, this would be that template. Following suit with my other themes, this is very simple, easy to use, and focused on content. You will want to fill the pages with words after you see the beautiful typography. Letters form words, which form sentences, which form paragraphs, which become tonic to cure the soul. I’m feeling way too zen today.

Awww, inn’at sweet? Pun intended. This is proof that there are humans employed at Microsoft. I always pictured Microsoft headquarters as the machine city in The Matrix Revolutions. I guess I was wrong, because they just sent a cake to Mozilla headquarters (which I always pictured as the Keebler Elves treehouse) in honor of Firefox 3 shipping. So, I guess what this means is, the cake is not a lie!

Blue Frost has been updated to work with Firefox 3 and IE8 Beta 1.
Antiline has been updated to work with Firefox 3 and IE8 Beta 1.
I’m working on a new theme that I will be releasing within the week. Firefox 3 devastated what I had so far, but at least it happened before I released it. If you are a Wordpress user don’t forget to keep an eye on Wordpress Candy to see when new Wordpress themes post.
Firefox 3 has been released. I have noticed a few changes in how it renders markup, specifically the float:right difference. It is an amazing piece of software and I’m having a blast with it. Get your copy here, and check out the loads of new features it has.
It’s a lot faster than Firefox 2. It has a new graphics engine to make the Intarwebs shinier. Oh, and one feature that I didn’t read about but I experienced myself: when it loads a previous Firefox session, it doesn’t just remember which pages to load, but it remembers the history of each page. So, if you close Firefox and re-open an old session, your back button still works. I like that.
Internet Explorer 8 beta 1 has been released for developers. The question on everyone’s mind is, will the newest version finally be web compliant? The answer is yes. Consider this excerpt from the IE8 Beta 1 Whitepaper:
On one hand, there are literally billions of Web pages designed to render on previous browser versions, including many sites that are no longer actively managed. On the other hand, there is a concrete benefit to Web designers if all vendors give priority to interoperability around commonly-accepted standards as they evolve. After weighing these very legitimate concerns, we have decided to give top priority to support for these new Web standards.
On top of this, IE8 will offer backwards compatibility for IE7 and IE6, and it will feature a developer toolbar. Check out some more features here.
But, alas, the world will never be perfect. I still had to restart my system after I installed it. ![]()
This page features an “image” of Homer Simpson, although it’s really not an image at all. It’s done using only CSS. If you don’t believe me, look at the page source or drag your mouse over the picture and try to highlight different parts of it and you’ll see some of the individual elements involved.
I opened up the page source and copied the CSS and pasted it directly onto my site and it looks almost identical! See for yourself:
Please note: if I am breaking any sort of copyright here please let me know and I’ll take the “image” down and just leave the link to the original site.
AntiLine is my second full-release wordpress/html template. It’s based on the Blue Frost engine but it’s a totally new take. It’s clean and totally devoid of lines. I wanted to emphasize layout and typography by denying the familiar urge to squeeze lines between elements to separate them. It was tricky to get used to but I think the result is a very seamless template that takes emphasis off of design and puts it on content.

Noupe just posted a great article with tons of CSS examples. Some of the interesting topics:
